This is the glorious Jacobite Steam Train operated by West Coast Railways! When I shot it, it was making its way from Mallaig to Fort William. I loved how it looked with Loch Shiel in the background.
It is fairly easy to see the train if you are in Scotland. It runs 7 days a week from the 26th of April till the 1st of October. It’s a “magical” way to travel between the two Highland towns. For its full schedule, please visit West Coast Railways’ website here. I used it to figure out how to time my arrival in Glenfinnan. It helped me see the train multiple times.
The train was made famous by the Harry Potter films. A lot of fans make the small pilgramage up the hill above the Glenfinnan Viaduct to see it. If you are one of those fans and would like to know more about it, I’ve written a blog post about it here.
I had a wonderful time shooting it! I would love to go back and see it again. Maybe even go for a ride? We shall see.
In the meantime, if you like this image of the Jacobite Steam train, don’t hesitate to snap a print of it!
